Karel has been chief executive of the Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS) since 2000 and senior research fellow since 1997. He is a member of the European Shadow Financial Regulatory Committee (ESFRC) and has published widely on EU and financial regulation matters.
Willem Pieter is the ECRI Research Coordinator. He is also Senior Research Fellow and head of the Financial Markets and Institutions Unit at CEPS.
He has (co)-authored studies and coordinated projects on EU and Near East financial institutions regulation, diversity in bank ownership and business models, retail financial services and financial instruments. Moreover, he also works on small and medium-sized enterprises obstacles to growth and access to finance as well as collaborative economy and taxation.
Meryem Gökten is a Researcher in ECRI and the Financial Markets and Institutions Unit at CEPS.
Before, she was a Consultant in the Country and Financial Sector Analysis Division at the European Investment Bank (EIB). She provided research services for the EBRD-EIB-WBG Enterprise Survey Reports and contributed research projects in the field of internalization, trade, innovation, and investment & productivity. She has also completed a traineeship in the Economic Studies Division of the EIB and a research internship at Walter Eucken Institute.

The European Credit Research Institute (ECRI) is a think-tank managed by CEPS and has its own board with its own strategy. The European Credit Research Institute (ECRI) is an independent, non‐profit research institute that develops its expertise from an interdisciplinary team and networks of academic cooperation partners. It was founded in 1999 by a consortium of European banking and financial institutions. ECRI’s operations and staff are managed by the Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS).
